PAINTING HOLIDAYS AT MANZAC D'EN BAS
We hosted our first painting holiday in 2008 and have been hosting up to ten painting holidays per year since then.
The peacefulness and beauty of the surrounding countryside and the flexibility of the accommodation make Manzac the ideal location for painting holidays (as well as other activity holidays including photography, etc) Importantly, there is also a great range of subject matter to suit all interests - beautiful countryside and rivers, interesting architecture in the local, mediaeval towns and villages, and great flowers (especially wild orchids from the meadows in spring and sunflowers in the autumn).
These holidays can take place any time outside the high season, ie during May, June, September and October which are often the best times to visit Manzac d’en Bas and the Ariege, as invariably, the weather is slightly cooler and the countryside is at it’s most beautiful. Holidays can start and finish on any day of the week, thus enabling participants to take advantage of cheaper mid week flights.

The Studio In 2012 we constructed a purpose built studio at Manzac in a location with spectacular views across the countryside to the Pyrenees. This facility has been extremely popluar with all our tutors and artist guests and is a great asset to what we offer at Manzac. This spacious (50m2) and light studio is ideal for painting when the weather isn't conducive to painting en pleine-air - too wet, cold or indeed too hot. When needed, it is heated by a wood burning stove. It is also great for specific painting disciplines such as still life, portraiture and life drawing as well as being a comfortable place in which to finish off incomplete work. Above all, though, we have found that our artists really appreciate having somewhere to put all their painting equipment and creations without having to tidy everything away each evening.
The studio also comes fully equipped with easels, chairs, tables and painting boards

While we hope that our guests will progress artistically, we hope also that that they will have an enjoyable, happy and memorable holiday, part of which will be to enjoy good food, wine and company.
Due to the spacious nature of the accommodation and facilities, course participants are most welcome to bring their husbands / wives / partners with them who can then enjoy a relaxing holiday at Manzac with everything that it and the surrounding area has to offer.

Many of our guests have very kindly left independent reviews of their painting holiday at Manzac d'en Bas - some of these are copied below, but please click here or on the Tripadvisor logo on the left to see many more.
"Manzac is a magical place. You must forgive me, but I am going to use a lot of superlatives in this review. Giles and Louise have really worked hard and have succeeded in creating a wonderful retreat in a stunning location. The accommodation is really comfortable and oozes with character (and paintings). Giles and Louise are superb hosts. They are incredibly warm, welcoming and fun and did absolutely everything to make each one of us comfortable and happy and to enable us to paint away or relax as we wished. The meals (and wine) were delicious, varied and plentiful (lunch and drinks popped up wherever we were including at the mouth of prehistoric caves); arrangements were made seamlessly and (for us!) effortlessly; the special artists' studio was well-equipped. Delightfully, Giles and Louise, Iona and Fergus really seemed to enjoy having us at Manzac."
"Manzac d'en Bas is to be highly recommended to anyone looking for a holiday at a venue that has spectacular views, wonderful home cooking and a great 'house party' atmosphere. When I signed up recently for a group painting holiday, from the moment I was collected from the airport, the host and hostess Giles and Louise are on hand and willing to offer any help and advice, so you can really make the most of your holiday."
"This was my third painting holiday at Manzac d'en Bas with Sue Deighton as my tutor and hosts Giles and Louise. The whole experience was beyond comparison. The accommodation, set in stunning countryside is comfortable in a relaxed style. Hosts Giles and Louise do everything possible to make the occasion memorable. From the delicious food, local wines, informal picnic lunches and long chatty suppers nothing is too much for this couple to achieve. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to visit Manzac again."
"This is truly the best accommodation and location I have ever experienced. Our hosts Giles and Louise were absolutely fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. All I had to do was concentrate on my painting - which was tricky trying to capture the scenery in all it's magnificence! The food, standard of Gite accommodation and care and attention to detail were second to none."
"This was our second trip to Manzac this year, both being for painting holidays. The first was in June and the second in October. It was a delight to return to experience such excellent hospitality from Giles and Louise. We think that Manzac is a wonderful, peaceful place in a breathtaking situation. The views of the Pyrenees are ever changing. We love the unspoilt nature of the surrounding countryside and villages. Everything is expertly organised from the airport pick up to all the wonderful home cooking with aperitifs and drinks with meals all included. The rooms are spacious as is all the accommodation. Nothing is too much trouble for these wonderful hosts."
"This was my second painting holiday at Manzac d'en Bas and it was just wonderful to be back. From the moment Giles met us at the airport I knew we were in for a great time. Giles and Louise couldn't do enough for us. Lovely food (thank you Louise) It was perfect sitting painting in the sunshine and at 1pm Giles and Louise would arrive with a picnic. A wonderful variety of painting spots and never far to travel to them It was lovely to be able to walk out of the gite in the early morning sunshine and look across to the Pyrenees appearing out of the mist."
