We believe that a family holiday at Manzac is special and very different from many other self catering holidays in France.  This is because of the size and configuration of the gites, the garden and the terraces make it possible for family groups of between four to 18 adults and children.

We have three gites of varying sizes - L'Ecurie (accommodation for up to 4 people), Le Logement (accommodation for up to six people) and La Grange (accommodation for up to 8 people).  As well as a large garden, our other facilities include a 13m x 6m swimming pool, a summer games room and a fire pit.

In addition, we live on-site and we believe we have found a good balance between being discreet and being social, and being available to offer help and advice to make your holiday a happy and successful one.

Manzac is unique in many ways, one of them being the lay-out of the garden which allows guests to be separate or to socialise as they wish. The gîtes each have their own outdoor eating spaces, set well apart, to enable family groups and friends to enjoy some private time together. There is, however, also plenty of communal space if guests decide they want to have drinks or a have a barbeque with other guests.

We invite everyone for drinks on Sunday evening, the day after your arrival, once you’ve had a chance to unpack and settle in. This is a great ice breaker and gives both adults and children a chance to meet. It also gives us an opportunity to let you know about the many activities / things to do and places to visit that are on offer in the Ariege. This way you can ‘hit the ground running’, plan your week a bit in advance and have time to book day trips. Whilst the adults often settle down for a good chat over a glass of wine or two, the children normally end up together either running around the garden and playing ping pong or badminton (once they have finished all the crisps!).

We live on site and aim to be around any time that you need us, and leave you in peace to enjoy your holiday when you don’t ! After several years managing the gites, we believe we have got this balance about right and having lived in the Ariege for ten years and done many of the amazing activities on offer, we can also give you plenty of advice and guidance. The advantage for you is that we are on site to help you as and when you need - changing a gas bottle or a light bulb, booking a restaurant or day out / activity, making a doctors appointment (if necessary) etc.  We are also here to ensure that the gîtes are properly cleaned on changeover days and maintained throughout the year.

All linen and towels are provided and cots highchairs can be provided if advance notice is given.

Many of our guests have very kindly left independent reviews of their family holiday at Manzac d'en Bas - some of these are copied below, but please click here or on the Tripadvisor logo on the left to see many more.

"Having spent two weeks at Manzac last year, we returned for another two weeks this Summer. The kids had a fab time playing with the other guests children and as you can guess the Pool, Crocquet, Badminton and not to forget Daco the dog were all big hits.Giles, Louise, Iona and Fergus are wonderful hosts and we truly enjoyed their Introductory Greeting Nights - a lovely touch and a great way to meet the other guests. We also greatly appreciated Giles and Louise booking our reservation for our visit to the amazing Niaux Grotto. We had another wonderful holiday - it is an idyllic place and once we saw the magnificent view again we knew we were on holiday."

"Manzac d'en Bas is wonderfully situated on top of a hill overlooking the vast plains and hills of the Ariège region. The view really is magnificent : this surrounding area is totally unspoilt and it is very rare to be in contact with such nature at it's purest! The gites themselves are clean and decorated in a homely way, Giles and Louise have thought of everything and are especially well equipped to welcome young children. The bedrooms are really comfy and it was hard to get out of bed in the morning!  Giles and Louise have found the right balance of being on hand to offer help and tips and leaving their guests to enjoy Manzac at their own pace and leisure. Thanks to them we had a fantastic summer!"

"It says a lot that the other families we met at the gites had been before and it's very easy to understand why. It's a marvellous area with loads to do and see, pictures don't do the views justice, the gites are lovely and Giles and Louise couldn't be more helpful. We loved it."

"We had a fantastic holiday after several recommendations from other friends. Amazing setting with views of the Pyrenees and fields of green. The accommodation clean, spacious and plenty crockery and utensils to allow you to cook as much or as little as you want. Beautiful en suite bathrooms.Very comfy beds.Beautiful garden to explore and have fun with badminton, croquet and of course simply run around. The pool was fun with a horizon view of the valley.   As for our hosts Giles and Louise and family- they are truly fab - professional, friendly, helpful with great ideas of trips to surrounding villages and very generous with welcoming drinks and a lovely mid week BBQ."

"This is a wonderful place for a family holiday, great house which is very well equipped and in a fantastic location with incredible views. The pool is beautiful and there is lots to see and do in the area. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would recommend this Gite very highly."

"Manzac afforded us the perfect late-summer week – space, fresh air, swimming, barbecues, relaxed parents, late nights, the loveliest dog and new friends for the boys (aged 5 and 7), and pretty much the same for us adults. Giles and Louise are exceptional hosts and have created a wonderful haven in this unspoilt and little-known corner of France. Our gite (La Grange) was beautiful, spacious and comfortable, the views are truly lovely – even from the pool - and the set-up wonderfully conducive to sociability or solitude, depending on one's mood."
